Crossovers

Supernatural/American Gods
Dust in the Wind by [livejournal.com profile] lyra_wing
Brilliant crossover with American Gods. Hunters believe in Sam and Dean, and so they become. Beautifully written. And the companion piece, Between Earth and Sky by SA (no real knowledge of American Gods is needed to understand the crossover)

Supernatural
Always With the Scissors by [livejournal.com profile] pheebs1
The boys play 'Rock Paper Scissors' throughout the years. Lovely and sad. Spoilers through "Heart."

...And It Went Right to My Head by [livejournal.com profile] kimonkey7
Dean is missing his father and that grief and longing is palpable in every line of this gorgeous, heartbreaking story.

And On the Seventh Day by [livejournal.com profile] __tiana__
I was really unsure about this story - it's beautifully written, but the idea of following what happened in "Heart" with sex made me wary. Both Dean and Sam are wonderfully in-character, though, so it works. Heartbreaking. (wincest)

But Lately I See Her Ribbons and Her Bows by [livejournal.com profile] notthequiettype
Dean wakes up a girl. He enjoys it, until he doesn't. Sam just wants his brother back. Hot and hilarious and sweet and a little wistful. (wincest)

Do There Embrace by [livejournal.com profile] parenthetical
That vision of Jess in Bloody Mary is only the first time Sam sees her. Sad, creepy story about holding on and learning to let go.

the dog begging bone by [livejournal.com profile] regala_electra
Dean's never had a pet. There's something heartbreaking and true about this, good look at Dean's character, and how he cares about things and sees the world. And the last line is a kicker.

Even Living Legends Need Eggs by [livejournal.com profile] belyste
This might well be titled "Deanstown" - the only thing missing is a song in his honor. The boys stop off at a town to rest up and it turns out Dean's been there before. Hilarious.

The Fall Into Victory's Arms by [livejournal.com profile] jewels667
Sam slowly realizes that he's fallen for Dean. I like the pacing of this, how it unfolds slowly, and how Sam isn't sure until he finally is, and then he's willing to wait for Dean to be sure, as well. (wincest)

Godzilla by [livejournal.com profile] quellefromage
When Godzilla chases after the little Godzilla, and saves him from the bad guys who trap him, Dean asks Dad if Godzilla will always be there when his son needs him.

Dad rubs Dean's head, and says, "Of course he will. That's what fathers do."

"Forever? No matter what?"

"Forever," Dad says. "No matter what."

Dean holds onto that promise for the next twenty years. Dad keeps it for as long as he can.

*sniffle*

I Waited Here For Your Returning by [livejournal.com profile] hossgal
Hard and heartbreaking coda to Heart. Sam wants to talk. Dean doesn't see the point.

There comes a day when she stops knocking her elbows and knees into everything, and starts to move like some kind of cross between a prizefighter and a ballerina. Dean/girl!Sam that is sharp, raw, hot and just a little sweet, the way it should be.

The Letter by [livejournal.com profile] antiship
Sam reads a letter he's not supposed to, and wants to discuss it with Dean. Dean doesn't want to talk about it. Hot and also heartbreaking. (Wincest)

Not a Favorable Wind by [livejournal.com profile] smilla02
Stark and sharp and captures the devastating aloneness of grief. Dean withdraws and Sam can't reach out, as they prepare their father's body for the pyre.

Rumors of My Death by K Hanna Korossy
Aw, boys. A small reunion story that made me really happy.

the spirits we drank are now ghosts in the room by [livejournal.com profile] cathybites
Sam gets Dean drunk and takes advantage. Dean realizes he doesn't mind. Mmm...tasty. I really like determined, manipulative Sam, and how Dean can't refuse him. (Wincest)

Ten Strangers by [livejournal.com profile] mandysbitch
Sam is on his own, and trying to make sense of everything that's happened. Heartbreaking and lovely. Sam's sense of dislocation is palpable. (wincest)

That's My Story by [livejournal.com profile] tolakasa
Adorable story of Sam telling a (suitably-edited) story about Dean to some acquaintances at Stanford.

The Things They Carried by [livejournal.com profile] lunabee34
Six characters, six drabbles, six things that have meaning. The last one, about Sam, is my favorite - cuts right to the heart not only of his character, but also his relationship with Dean. Lovely.

Thunder Road by [livejournal.com profile] ishafel
Sam's seventeen. The girl's sixteen. Dad's not wrong, when he hands Dean two thousand dollars in cash and orders Dean to take her to Sioux Falls and take care of things. Heartbreaking and perfect. Would love to know what happens next.

Verbal by [livejournal.com profile] big_pink
Normally I dislike stories that make Dean spill his guts because of a magic spell, but oh, god this one is hilarious and completely heartbreaking at the same time. Dean can't stop talking, and Sam tries not to take advantage of that fact.

The Whipping Post by [livejournal.com profile] purpleposi
Now that Dad is gone, Dean is the only person left who knows what the curve of Sam's ear looked like as a baby Dean knows Sam better than anyone, but there's one thing he doesn't know, and it haunts him. Beautiful, grave with the weight of all they've lost, in-character. Heartbreaking.

With Perfect Clarity by [livejournal.com profile] estrella30
This isn't what Sam wants, it never is, but it's all Dean can give him, and it has to be enough. Heartbreaking, hard and true. Oh, boys. (wincest)

The Wonder of Each Hour by [livejournal.com profile] destina
Who are the people in Dean's cell phone address book? This set of interconnected stories looks at how he knows each of them. Quiet and heartbreaking. I especially like the first two.
