James Bond movies

all you need to make a movie is a gun and a girl by [livejournal.com profile] postcardmystery
Q is not a name. Q is a designation, a title, a letter that looks like a codename that looks like a cypher that doesn't tell you anything at all. (Other than 'quartermaster', and even that doesn't tell you all that much.) Q is not a name, but it is all anybody ever calls him. He signs documents with a looping letter, presses one key when he finishes an email, answers the phone not with a greeting but a clipped consonant.

Q is not a name, and it is not a name for a reason. So he's five nine. So he's a hundred and thirty pounds. So he looks like you could knock him over with a feather. He can crash the US State Department's entire computer network in less than three minutes.

Q is not a name, and it is not a number, either. You don't give men like Q numbers. They know what to do with them, you see.
really excellent Q/Moneypenny.

One Day She Will Swim with Dolphins by [personal profile] scioscribe
All Shirley could think was that Andre would never have taken her here. She hadn't had a rocket pop in years. She understood, all at once, that she loved her group more than she loved Andre, and that she would have to end things, because she couldn't breathe in her own house anymore.

She took off her shoes and put her feet into the water.

"It may look like I'm having a nervous breakdown," she said, "but I really do think I'm going to be fine."

"I know," Troy said. He took her hand. "Everybody knows that, Shirley."
Excellent story about Shirley, that makes great use of Britta, too.

Discworld/Firefly

Feegles on a Firefly by [archiveofourown.org profile] SpaceAnJL
A blur of blue up the front of Jayne's t-shirt, and there is a noise like someone hitting a steak. Jayne staggers, cross-eyed with the effort of looking at the thing astride his nose. The creature butts him again.

"Crivens, isnae many Bigjobs can tek a second heidful o' Wee Begbie." says a small admiring voice, just before he passes out.
Exactly what it says on the tin. Absolutely HILARIOUS.

with her killer graces and her secret places by [personal profile] crossedwires
Joan opens the front door and leans on the door frame, projecting nonchalance as much as she can. "You don't call, you don't write, you don't reply to any of my messages. I was starting to think you broke up with me and forgot to let me know."

"We're not in a relationship, remember?" In her boots, Kalinda is a good three inches taller than a barefoot Joan, who straightens up as Kalinda reaches for her. "I've been caught up at work. You know how it goes."

Joan stands on her tiptoes, balancing on Kalinda's arm, so they're almost eye-to-eye. "I could've sworn there were phones in Chicago the last time I visited."

"Yeah, well... Surprise?" says Kalinda, with a tiny forgive-me? smile. And Joan is lost, between that smile, those boots and this kiss.
Brief, lovely Joan Watson/Kalinda Sharma. Yes, please.

The Amazing Spider-man

Bros Before Superheroes by [archiveofourown.org profile] jdphoenix
He throws an arm around Peter's shoulders and turns them both down the street in the opposite direction Peter wants to go. "We'll get through this, man, you and me. I want you to know, I am no longer a fan of Spider-man on Facebook. That's how much I'm here for you." He hitches his arm a little tighter around Peter. "There's a boxing match on tonight and we'll order pizza and laugh at dirty jokes. And, if you're ready for it, we can talk about her. Don't worry! I won't say her name! There will be a firm, no G-word rule while we have man-time." Flash is there for Peter when he discovers Gwen is cheating on him with Spider-man. Aw, Flash. Adorably hilarious.

A Guide to Caring for Your Very Own Spider-Boyfriend by [Anonymous]
The first time he clambers in through her window (back when her father was still alive oh god –) Gwen doesn't think much of it and her reaction is mostly fond incredulity. Peter Parker has always been kind of awkward, a contradiction in terms: inviting one second, all bashful intellect and charm, yet crushingly antisocial the next. Gwen knows this because they've been at the same school since elementary, orbiting each other like planetary bodies, even if it's only recently that they've actually been brought into close contact with each other.

(Maybe they're not planets. Maybe he's the sun and she's Icarus: she can feel the wax burning her fingers as it boils and melts –)

So when he taps on the window pane, it's just one more piece in the puzzle that is Peter Parker. It doesn't hurt that she finds his awkwardness unbearably endearing.
Really lovely Gwen/Peter that doesn't forget that Gwen is also a scientist.

promise not to promise anymore by [archiveofourown.org profile] professor_spork
Peter isn't here, Peter didn't save him, Peter lied.

I've got you, he'd said. A pretty lie. She told him how she didn't think she could do it twice, how the uncertainty weighed on her, never knowing if her dad would come home. And Peter had held her close and Peter had kissed her and Peter had filled her heart with empty promises about how it would be different, this time.

It's a lot easier to be mad at Peter than to miss her father.
Gwen and her grief, at the end of the movie and after. Oh Gwen. Oh my heart. Absolutely heartwrenching. Have tissues handy.

Avengers

Agent Barton's Strictly Professional Interest by [livejournal.com profile] im_ridiculous
"Codename: Black Widow," Barton recites. "Origin? Redacted. Age? Redacted. First recorded activity? Redacted. Appearance? Who the hell knows. Fury 'isn't ready' to hand over the pictures yet."

Barton reaches out to take the file back. "Is he serious about this?"

Coulson sips his coffee. "There's gotta be something in there. Old ops reports?"

"Yeah, but can I trust what's in here? Look at this--" Barton flicks to the top of the second page. "First of all, it lists one of her primary weapons as 'thighs'. Seriously. And then there's this: 'Kill rate: 100 per cent'." He looks up at his handler. "I'm expected to believe she's never failed or aborted a mission? Ever?"

Coulson almost rolls his eyes at that. "Well, I can understand why you wouldn't want to believe that, sure."
Clint's a little obsessive about the Black Widow, before they even meet. Hee!

And There Are Deserts Still by [archiveofourown.org profile] Amy
Coulson asks Natasha to go with him to High Holy Days services. It doesn't go quite as well as he'd hoped, at least not the first time. Really lovely - quiet and meditative with a great look at who Natasha is.

Long, enjoyable story of how Steve brings in the Winter Soldier and gets Bucky back. Some details don't mesh with the movie, and I'm not sure how plausible the psychology of it is, but there is some nice pining and some good action scenes.

Everyone thinks Steve and Bucky are dating. Bucky's a little annoyed he took so long to figure it out. favorite trope or favoritest trope? *g* Wonderful.

This would be worth reading for the Darcy-Bruce conversation alone, which is HILARIOUS, but the other sections are cute, too.

the story of what the night is thinking by [archiveofourown.org profile] restlesslikeme
Steve takes them both: fast and hungry first, their smoke filling his lungs and burning, choking him until he can't breathe and his skin feels like it's on fire. He licks across Bucky's collarbones, bites the curve of Natasha's hipbones. They move together like they were made to do it, their fingers entwined.

It's over too quickly. When they make love again it's slow and intimate, making up for lost time. It's mapping each other out with hands and mouths, lips lingering over pulse-points, building and then drawing back before anyone is able to tip over the edge until they've all collapsed together in an exhausted, sweaty heap.

"I love you," Steve says, and there's no question of which of them he's referring to.
Bittersweet Steve/Bucky/Natasha. <3

Really fantastic story about Bucky and Natasha's history together, and how she gets him back. Highly recommended. A must-read.

Natasha and Steve play truth or dare all the way across Europe. I really like their interaction here.

We Never Had To Run by [livejournal.com profile] caughtinanocean
Fury asks him, when the time comes to bring Bucky home, "Captain Rogers, how do you know this isn't just the Winter Soldier playing the long game?"

"With all due respect, Director Fury, if there's anything I know in this world, it's Bucky Barnes."

Steve knows Bucky like his own skin, but the man is still full of surprises. The first night Bucky falls asleep in the big, strong arms of his newly-minted boyfriend—the word is strange and exotic and wonderful on Steve's tongue—he whispers, already well-into the process of drifting off."I'd forgotten I could even feel this safe."
Steve and Bucky, doing the domestic. Mmm...lovely.
