Really well done and believable backstory for Valmont and Merteuil.

Ladyhawke

A woman's whole heart by seren_ccd
Beautiful story of Isabeau attempting to fit herself back into the constrained life of a lady after having the freedom of a hawk. Really wonderfully done. She's not entirely sure that the nuns don't know more of her history than they let on. They greet her with warmth and when she demonstrates her skill with medicines and herbs, only a few brows raise in surprise.

In truth, Isabeau relishes the opportunity to use her hands for more than simple embroidery or other womanly pursuits. With something worthwhile to do, her life begins to feel more complete.

All Summer in a Day

The Sun Shone on Venus by Ravenbell
If, like me, you were traumatized as a child by the story of the little girl who got locked in a closet for the hour that the sun shone on Venus, you need to read this story, because Margot grows up, and her childhood trauma drives her to change the world in the best kind of way. <3

That Which is Altogether Just by schemingreader
Wonderful look at LaDonna, her mother, and Toni. I wanted to tell her, "And who raised you, now, that you think I'm suddenly so weak?" In what soil did she think she'd sprung. She didn't get this from her daddy. She must know he was a soft man, like her two husbands, both soft men.

She must think I'm old, to try to spare me this sort of news.

The Marquise de Merteuil plays a game with Madame de Tourvel. I think I held my breath through this entire story. Utterly fabulous - delicate and intricate, sharp and cruel and deceptively truthful like the Marquise herself. Wonderful.

Desperate Housewives
The Progressive by [livejournal.com profile] boundbyspells
A progressive Christmas party along Wisteria Lane. "We're all unhappy, chum. Some of us just know how to share the burden." Lynnette tries to reach out to Rex. A perfect sketch of Wisteria Lane pre-pilot.

Wow. Just. I stopped watching SatC a few seasons back, though I know vaguely what happened later, but this is just... wow. Samantha, getting older, adjusting to change.

Lost in Translation

Charlotte watches Bob on television and wonders if Tokyo happened. Lovely coda to the film, and I could totally see her doing this. I wasn't going to even rec this, but it's stayed with me, and I find myself thinking about it at odd moments, much like the movie itself.
